Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • The main article does not contain any information about the author(s) to ensure a Double-Blind Review process.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The article should proper with the Author Guidelines and Article Template.
  • The submitted article is original and does not contain any elements of plagiarism.
  • The submitted article is written in English using academic language along with standard academic writing structure and composition.
  • By publishing articles in the Indonesian Journal of Visual, Culture, Design, and Cinema, the Author(s) agree to transmit the publication right to the Indonesian Journal of Visual Culture, Design, and Cinema under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License, once the articles are published on the website.

Author Guidelines

The Indonesian Journal of Visual Culture, Design, and Cinema publishes the following types of manuscripts: 

  • Original research articles: The manuscript should be approximately 4000-8000 words. The manuscripts must contain a review of the current state of knowledge on the research question(s) of interest, then share new information or new ideas that will impact the state of theory and/or practice in the area of visual culture, design, and cinema studies. 
  • Review article: The manuscripts should be approximately 1500-3500 words. The manuscripts must contain the current state of understanding on particular topics about visual culture, design, and cinema studies by analyzing and discussing research previously published by others. 
  • Book review: The manuscripts should be approximately 1500-4000 words. The manuscripts must contain a critical evaluation of the book by making arguments and commentary on the particular book discussed in visual cultural, design, and cinema studies. 
  • Practice notes: These are shorter manuscripts approximately 1500-3000 words that are of specific interest to practitioners. These manuscripts must present new developments for visual cultural, design, and cinema studies. 
  • Research notes: Similar to practice notes, these are shorter manuscripts approximately 1500-3500 words that have specific implications for visual culture, design, and cinema studies. The manuscripts should employ rigorous methodology either qualitative or quantitative. 

The manuscript shall be written according to the following rules: 

  • The manuscripts submitted to the Indonesian Journal of Visual, Culture, Design, and Cinema shall never be published elsewhere. Any manuscripts being processed by the Indonesian Journal of Visual Culture, Design, and Cinema should never be sent to other journals or media until there is the notification from the Editorial board. 
  • The Indonesian Journal of Visual Culture, Design, and Cinema is published in English only (British English and American English) consistently throughout the text, and please be sure to write clearly and use correct punctuation; we recommend that non-native authors have their contributions proofread. 
  • The articles shall be submitted via OJS systems in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx or .rtf). 
  • The author's name shall include no academic degrees and be placed under the title of the article. If the article has more than one author, the primary author must be on top of the others. If the article was written by the team, the author's name must be ordered alphabetically. In this case of script written by more than one author, Indonesian Journal of Visual Culture, Design, and Cinema editors will only correspond to the main author or author listed in the first place. 
  • Reference should follow APA Reference Style

The author contains Title, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusion, and References, with the following criteria: 

  • Title
    The title must describe the contents of the research articles and attract academic readers. The title consists of 8-20 words, not including a definite article (the) and an indefinite article (a, an). Use the phrase, not the sentence. 
  • Abstract
    The abstract is a summary of the article. It consists of the research objective, research methods, results, and conclusion. Implications or recommendations can be added in the abstract. The abstract must be written in 150-250 words. The abstract must not contain lengthy background information and have no reference to figures, tables, equations, or any bibliographical reference either coming within or from other articles. The language of the abstract must be clear and concise.
  • Keywords
    Keywords consist of important and/or specific words or phrases found mainly in the title and abstract. But, it can also come from the article. There are 3-5 keywords from one article.
  • Methods
    The methods section explains clearly how the author carried out the research. The method must describe the research design clearly, the replicable research procedures, describe how to summarize and analyze the data.
  • Results
    The results show objectively the presentation of the research key results without any interpretation using text, tables, and figures. The table must not print screen, specific numerical values, compare and contrast values, and a minimum of 2 rows and columns. The figures must be clear (provide the original file as a supplementary file in the article submission), and highlight trends, patterns, and relationships. The results must present how the author ensures the data's validity and reliability. 
  • Conclusion
    The conclusion shows the answer or clarification of the research question and opportunities for future research. 
  • Acknowledgment
    The authors must acknowledge any sources of funding that supported the research and may acknowledge the outside reviewers of their drafts. 
  • References
    The references must be written in APA Style and using reference manager software (Mendeley). The reference must be written in Roman script (Kanji, Hanzi, and Hangul are prohibited).
  • Tables and figures
    The tables and figures are numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals: 1), 2), 3), and so on and alphabets: a), b), c), and so on for the next level and written with caption and source of the figure and table. The table captions are written above the table, while the figure captions are below the figure. For tables, avoid using vertical lines. Figures and tables appear in good resolution and are not print-screened and/or screenshots.

AUTHORSHIP CHANGE

For changes to the authorship of manuscripts, the Indonesian Journal of Visual, Culture, Design, and Cinema requires that all authors complete and sign the Authorship Change form below. This includes any author(s) being added or removed, as well as all other authors included on the original author list. Signing this form indicates consent to the change(s), and agreement with the new Author Contributions, Conflict of Interest, and Acknowledgement sections. Ensure that every section of this form is completed.

Authorship criteria

Following the Indonesian Journal of Visual Culture, Design, and Cinema guidelines, to be included in the author list a contributor must meet all 4 of the following criteria: 

  • Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
  • Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
  • Final approval of the version to be published; AND
  • Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Any contributors who meet fewer than all 4 of the above criteria for authorship must not be listed as authors, but their contributions should be detailed in the Acknowledgments section. Requests to add authors who do not meet all 4 of the above criteria will not be considered. Please note that we cannot proceed with the publication of your manuscript until any outstanding authorship issues have been resolved.

Completing and signing the form

  • Complete and submit an Authorship Change form if you: Add, remove, or change the order of the authors after your article is accepted. 
  • We only accept forms written in English.
  • Complete the form with all article and author information, and new statements, if they have changed.
  • The form must be manually signed or contain valid e-signatures individually, by each author.
